DAVID GARFIELD LOGIE was concerned with railway engineering throughout his professional career, most of which was spent in India and the Far East. His apprenticeship was served in Dundee with Messrs. Robinson and Orchar, from 1898 to 1901, and with Messrs. Nicol and Jack from 1901 to 1903. For a brief period he attended the local technical institute.
His first appointment was that of inspector of works for the Bengal and North Western Railway, a position he retained until 1913, when he became assistant engineer to the Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Company, Ltd. He then filled short engagements in the same capacity with the British Burma Petroleum Company and as constructional engineer to Messrs. Bird and Company, Ltd., of Calcutta.
From 1918 to 1923 he was railway engineer for the Burma Corporation, and during the next three years acted as bridge inspector for the Eastern Bengal Railway. He then took up an appointment as sectional engineer to the British Borneo State Railways, in whose service he remained to the end of his career. Mr. Logie, whose death occurred in a Japanese internment camp in 1944 at the age of fifty-nine, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1913.
