of Portsmouth

1985 Vosper Thornycroft became a private company again after a management buyout.

Even during lean times for warship building, the company flourised mainly through successful sales efforts in exports and diversification outside of the core shipbuilding business into training and support.

2001 The overall business became known as VT Group plc

2008 BAE Systems and VT Group merged their military shipbuilding businesses to form BVT Surface Fleet. This included Fleet Support Limited, which was rebranded as BVT Surface Fleet Support Limited.

2009 VT sold its 45 percent share of the shipbuilding JV company BVT Surface Fleet to BAE Systems

2010 The remainder of the firm was acquired by Babcock International and is now a privately-owned US defence contractor.
