HACKETT, Councillor Tom, Justice of Peace for Birmingham, 1929; b. at Smethwick, 1869; s. of Thomas Hackett. Educ.: Dudley Road Board School. Learnt trade of engineering at Guest, Keen, and Nettlefolds, 1882-1892; employed by Messrs. Cadbury Bros. from 1892 to 1932; for twenty-six years acting as general works foreman, now retired; ex-member Birmingham City Council (Rotton Park Ward); present member of the City Council for Northfield Ward (elected, November, 1932); contested King's Norton Division of Birmingham as Parliamentary candidate, Dec., 1918; Chairman Birmingham Co-operative Political Party, 1919-1923; President Ten Acres Co-operative Society; President Fircroft Adult School; Chairman of the Brynmawr and Clydach Valley Industries (Public Utility Society), Ltd.; Member Central Education Committee of the National Co-operative Union; Representative on the Joint Board of Birmingham University and the Workers' Educational Association; Governor of the Birmingham Blue Coat School; m. Elizabeth, d. of J. James, 1892; three s. two d. Recreations; Cycling and cricket. Address 119, Bournville Lane, Birmingham.
