George Pollard Dennis, who died on his 77th birthday, the 28th November, 1951, received his early education at St. John's School, Birkenhead; his engineering education at Liverpool Central Technical School; and his practical training with the Telegraph Manufacturing Co.
In 1901 he joined the staff of the Liverpool Central Technical School as a demonstrator, and nine years later was appointed Head of the Electrical Engineering Dept. From 1916 to 1919 he was Coal Controller for Cheshire, Stafford and North Wales. In 1920 he went into business on his own account as an electrical wholesaler, and later commenced manufacturing medium-voltage fuses and switchgear.
In 1927 he was elected President of the Electrical Wholesalers' Federation, and, two years later, President of the Federation's Lancashire and Yorkshire Section.
He joined The Institution as an Associate Member in 1910 and was elected a Member in 1913. He served on the Committee of the Liverpool Centre 1933-36. He was also a member of the Liverpool Engineering Society.
