Henry Stafford Fred Robert O'Brien (c1890-1928) - aka Harry Stafford O'Brien

Received his engineering education at Darlington Technical College. He was apprenticed with Robert Stephenson and Co, the well-known locomotive builders, and finished his training with Richardsons, Westgarth and Co.
After a period as engineer at sea he was appointed Assistant Works Manager to Teasdale Brothers, Darlington, and was subsequently Assistant Engineer with the Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers, and Chief Draughtsman in the Aviation Department of Vickers.
In 1920 he started in business as Consulting Engineer, and in 1923, when (his business was acquired by the Low Engineering Co, was appointed Chief Designer to the firm. This position he retained until 1926, when he entered into partnership as Consulting Engineer.
He died on 26th November, 1928.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1926.

HENRY STAFFORD FRED ROBERT O'BRIEN served his apprenticeship with Messrs. Robert Stephenson and Company and Messrs. Richardson, Westgarth and Company.
After spending seven months on board ship as fourth engineer, he became assistant works manager with Messrs. Teasdale Brothers of Darlington.
In 1912 he was appointed assistant engineer with the Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers and two years later engineer with Messrs. Vickers.
From 1916 to 1920 he was chief draughtsman in the firm's aviation department, and carried out the detail design of the Vickers Vimy aeroplane which flew across the Atlantic, and from England to Australia in 1920.
In August 1920 he commenced to practise as a consulting engineer, but three years later his business was acquired by the Low Engineering Company.
For the last two years he was managing director of Messrs. Stafford O'Brien and Partners, consulting engineers.
Mr. O'Brien died on 26th October 1928, at the age of 38.
He became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1926.
