In 1936 he joined the Board of the Company and played a considerable part in its rapid progress. By his research and experience he made an outstanding contribution to the study of non-ferrous metallurgy, and he was well known and highly respected throughout the country. | |||
He became a member of the Institute in 1914. Mr. Crowther had a very charming personality, was an interesting conversationalist, unfailingly courteous, and of sterling character. He was a loyal comrade and friend, and his loss will be felt sorely in many circles. He was a very keen worker for the Methodist Church, and could always be relied upon to help in any good cause. Mr. Austin Crowther of Bawtry Road, Doncaster, died at his home on 15 January, at the age of 64.
After experience with consulting metallurgists in the Midlands and metal production on Tyneside, Austin Crowther joined Peglers Ltd., brassfounders, of Doncaster, over 30 years ago, to take charge of the metal department. Here, he introduced the open-hearth reverberatory, the semi-rotary, and the electric furnaces.
