The Ffestiniog Railway and the Welsh Highland Railway run narrow gauge trains on two separate routes from Porthmadog Station.
The Ffestiniog Railway is the world's oldest narrow gauge railway, and runs for 13½ miles journey from the harbour in Porthmadog to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog.
The Welsh Highland Railway runs for 25 miles from Caernarfon, past the foot of Snowdon and the village of Beddgelert, then through the Aberglaslyn Pass and on to Porthmadog.
Note: Another preserved railway running from Porthmadog, but not connected with the FR and WHR, is [The Welsh Highland Heritage Railway].
