1889 Gained a Whitworth Exhibition and attended the Central Institution in London
1890 Gained a Whitworth Scholarship; appointed demonstrator under Professor Unwin; also took electrical engineering course.
1891 Personal assistant to Mr Hammersley Heenan, experimenting and various electrical work.
Had charge of erection of Blackpool Tower
1893 in charge of erection of Watkin Tower at Wembley. Associate of the Inst of Civil Engineers(previously Student member).
1894 Married Louisa Jane Hawley
1895 Mr. H. Heenan, M. Inst. C.E., and Mr. W. Gilbert, Wh. Sc, Assoc. M. Inst. C. E. presented a paper on "The Design and Testing of Centrifugal Fans," at the Institution of Civil Engineers[2]. The object of the experiments was to determine the best form of fan blade and fan case, and the most economical diameter and speed of fan, to produce any required volume of air at a given pressure.
