Withy, Alexander and Company, were shipbuilders at Middleton Yard, Hartlepool

  • Edward Withy worked for the shipbuilding firm of Richardson, Duck and Co at Stockton–on–Tees, about ten miles (16 km) south of Hartlepool. Edward Alexander worked for shipbuilders Denton, Gray and Co in Hartlepool.
  • Their first ship was the Maria Ysabel, launched in May 1869.
  • 1873 Edward Alexander left the business; Withy took charge.
