Withy, Alexander and Co
Withy, Alexander and Company, were shipbuilders at Middleton Yard, Hartlepool
- Edward Withy worked for the shipbuilding firm of Richardson, Duck and Co at Stockton–on–Tees, about ten miles (16 km) south of Hartlepool. Edward Alexander worked for shipbuilders Denton, Gray and Co in Hartlepool.
- 1869 Withy and Alexander went into partnership in 1869, taking over a shipyard which had belonged to Denton, Gray and Co and prior to that was the yard of Luke and George Blumer.
- Their first ship was the Maria Ysabel, launched in May 1869.
- 1873 Edward Alexander left the business; Withy took charge.
- 1874 The company name was changed to E. Withy and Co.
