British Titan Products Ltd of Billingham, Teeside
1933 Company formed to make titanium dioxide pigments[1]. Jointly owned by ICI, Imperial Smelting Corporation, Goodlass, Wall and Lead Industries and National Lead Co of America. Acquired land from ICI at Billingham to erect a plant.
1934 First production at Billingham, 900 tons.
1943 Involved in conspiracy charge by US Department of Justice against National Lead Co[2].
1948 Capital Issue. By this time R. W. Greeff and Co was one of the shareholders, together with ICI, Imperial Smelting Corporation, Goodlass, Wall and Lead Industries[3]
1949 Additional plant at Grimsby making rutile.
By 1968 Imperial Smelting Corporation was part of Rio Tinto Zinc
1970 Production capacity 27000 tons at Billingham, 80000 tons at Grimsby. Further plant under construction near Hartlepool[4].
1973 Rio Tinto Zinc sold its shares to its 3 partners.
1976 Name changed to Tioxide Group.
