George Henry Starr (1875- )

Hurstpierpoint College, 1888-92; City and Guilds Engineering College, Finsbury, 1892-4. Training with W. H. Allen, Sons and Co., Bedford, 1894-7. Assistant Engineer, R.N., 1897; Engineer-Lieutenant, 1903; Engineer. Lieut.-Commander, 1911; Senior Engineer of H.M.S. "Indomitable" on the occasion of visit of H.R.H. Prince of Wales to Quebec when that ship on the return journey lowered all existing Atlantic records by maintaining an average speed of 25.3 knots. Served in Ordnance Department, Admiralty, 1910-14. War Services.—As Assistant Engineer of H.M.S. Centurion" landed with Admiral Sir E. J. Seymoues Column, June, 1900, for Relief of Peking (medal and clasp); Senior Engineer of H.M.S. "Queen Elizabeth" at Dardanelles, 1915; promoted Engineer-Commander, 1916, for good service; Engineer-Commander of H.M.S. "Duncan" in Mediterranean and H.M.S. "Cochrance" in Second Cruiser Squadron; in charge of gun mountings, Portsmouth Dockyard, 1917.
