William Erskine Bartlett
William Erskine Bartlett (1830- ) of the North British Rubber Co. Cycle pioneer who patented the beaded-edge tyre.
1830 April 18th. Born at Granby, Hampshire, Mass., USA, the son of Wait Bartlett (1786-1869) and his wife Martha Gold Chapin (1790-1879)

1871 Lodging at Blaringhill House, Logie, Perthshire: William E. Bartlett (age 40 born USA), Manufacturer merchant. With h1s wife Josephine Bartlett (age 32 born USA) and their daughters Josephine H. Bartlett (age 5 born USA) and Maria N. Bartlett (age 3 born USA).[1]
1870 Patent. '2452. And William Erskine Bartlett, of Edinburgh, North Britain, Assistant Manager to the North British Rubber Company, has given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in the construction of elastic tyres for carriage wheels."'[2]
1890 Patented a clincher tyre by broadening an earlier patent application for a detachable non-pneumatic tire to include pneumatic construction. The Bartlett Clincher tyre subsequently became the first detachable pneumatic introduced to the market. See Tyre Patents
1891 Living at 21 Buckingham Terrace, Edinburgh: William E. Bartlett (age 60 born United States - naturalised British Subject), managing Director of the N. B. Rubber Co. With his wife Josephine H. Bartlett (age 52 born United States - naturalised British Subject) and their children Maria N. Bartlett (age 23 born United States - naturalised British Subject); Annie C. Bartlett (age 18 born Edinburgh); and Lucy C. Bartlett (age 15 born Edinburgh). Three servants.[3]
1896 May. Agreement. 'Agreement dated 1st May, 1896, between the North British Rubber Company, Limited, of tbe first part, William Erskine Bartlett, of the second part, and the Pneumatic Tyre Company, Limited, of tbe third part'[4]
1897 Dunlop Pneumatic Tyre Co bought the Bartlett patent
