David L. Rutherford

1918 Appointed locomotive, carriage and wagon superintendent of the Furness Railway in succession to W. F. Pettigrew.[1]

1922 M.Inst.C.E., Chief Engineer and Locomotive Superintendent, Furness Railway, Barrow-in-Furness. T. A.: " Rails, Barrow." 7'. N.: 40 5 Barrow-in-Furness. Training with North British Railway as pupil in 1890. On completion of pupilage in 1894 was taken on permanent staff as Junior Assistant. Had charge of important new works under construction. Was appointed Chief Assistant in the New Works Department in 1905; District Engineer of the North Division in 1907, and Engineer of the Furness Railway in 1909. In 1918 was appointed Locomotive Superintendent, which position he still holds in addition to that of Engineer. Was President of the Permanent Way Institution in 1912. Major Engineer and Railway Staff Corps, R.E. (T.F.).
