1899 Announce they are going in to the manufacture of motor tricycles.[1]
1903 A series of photographs taken in 1903 show Baxendale's structural steel department, accessed from Kenyon Street (off Rochdale Road). No doubt good work was done there despite the primitive conditions. The photographs are available online in the Manchester City Council Images Collection. Despite appearances, the main shop was not derelict, as it can be seen that the lineshaft is running in one photograph[2]. The lineshaft was powered by a gas engine located in the wooden shed on the left. Gas also provided what might, with some exaggeration, be called 'illumination'. Evidently some new machinery was being installed. Plate planing machine on right. Other photos show more machines [3] [4] [5] [6]
