1870 Patent. '2916. And Edmund Walker, of the firm of Emerson Walker and Company, of London-street, in the city of London, Ships' Windlass Manufacturers, and William Clarke, of Gateshead-on-Tyne, in the county of Durham, Engineer, has given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in windlasses."'

1874 Patent. '4149. And William Clarke, of Gateshead-on-Tyne, in the county of Durham, and Edmund Walker, of the firm of Emerson Walker and Company, of London-street, Mark-lane, in the city of London, Ships' Windlass Manufacturers, have given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in ships windlasses, and in appliances connected therewith, parts of which are applicable to other machines,"'

1878 Patent. '877. To Edmund Walker, of the firm Emerson, Walker, and Company, of Leadenhall-street, in the city of London, Ships' Windlass and Capstan Manufacturers, for the invention of "improvements in apparatus connected with the raising, lowering, controlling, and stopping chain cables in-board ships or vessels."'

1884 Private company formed as Emerson Walker and Thompson Brothers Ltd, presumably by joining with Thompson Brothers, also of Dunston.

1888 Emerson Walker and Thompson Brothers supplied a patent windlass for the South Briton

1896 Emerson Walker and Thompson Brothers supplied steam windlasses for the Garmoyle

1906 Emerson Walker supplied the steam windlass for the Towergate which was launched at Sunderland

1909 Emerson Walker and Thompson Brothers supplied a steam windlass and capstan for the Gerania

Worked closely with Clarke, Chapman and Co for many years.

1928 Name changed.

1961 General engineers specialising in the manufacture of windlasses and steam capstans and ships auxiliary machines. 400 employees.
