1807 December 11th. Born at Bethnal Green the son of James Burton and his wife Elizabeth
1850 'Bennett Alfred Burton, of the firm of Bennett, Burton, and Burton, of John's-place, Holland-street, Southwark, engineer, for certain improvements in apparatus connected with sewers, drains, and cesspools; also in suction and delivery pipes, and in connecting such pipes or hose, the apparatus connected with sewers, drains, and cesspools, being applicable to other like purposes.'[1]
1851 Living at 9 Nelson Square, Southwark: Mortimer Burton (age 39 born St. Saviour, Surrey), Engineer and a Widower. With his son Benjamin Burton (age 4 born Christ Church, Surrey). Also his brother Alfred Burton (age 47 born Bethnal Green), Engineer's Partner; his sister Anne Burton (age 30 born St. Saviour, Surrey); his nephew George Waller (age 19 born Islington), Engineer's Apprentice. Two servants.[2]
1853 Patent. '636. To Bennett Alfred Burton and Henry Mortimer Burton, of John's-place, Holland street, Blackfriar's-road, in the county of Surrey, Engineers, for the invention of "improvements in the mode of manufacturing casks, vats, and other like vessels, and in the machinery or apparatus to be employed for such purpose."'[3]
1854 Bankrupt. '...Bankruptcy, bearing date the 8th day of April, 1854, hath been duly filed against Bennett Alfred Burton and Henry Mortimer Burton, of John's-place, Holland-street, Southwark, in the county of Surrey, Engineers, Dealers and Chapmen, and they being declared bankrupts,...'[4]
1868 April 6th. Died at Lambeth.
1868 Probate. Late of 6 Percy Villas, Barrington Road, Brixton, Engineer, was proved by George Waller the younger of Phoenix Engine Works, Holland Street, Blackfriars, Engineer, the nephew, and Isabella Emma Hall of Kent Lodge, Hampstead Heath.
