1841 William Smith, merchant, 50 and his wife Margaret, 30, lived at Benton House, Newcastle[4] (presumably this is the grandfather of Eustace Smith who lived at Benton House).
1851 Merchant, shipowner, shipbuilder, farmer of 31 acres, age 40, living in Longbenton, Newcastle with Margaret Smith 45; visited by his brother's wife Margaret C Smith 40[5]
1860 Died at his home, Gosforth House, Northumberland; executors were Margaret Smith, his wife, and Thomas Eustace Smith, his son [6]
