Robert Carnegie Napier was born in 1900, and was educated at Loretto School, Musselburgh, and Glasgow University, where he passed numerous examinations in engineering and general scientific subjects.
He received his technical training with Daimler, and was later associated with his father, Lt.-Col. J. S. Napier, in erection and maintenance work. He subsequently joined the Cubitt Engineering Co, as assistant to the works director, which post he occupied until his death which took place at the end of 1925 from sleepy sickness.
He was elected a Probationary Graduate of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1917, and was transferred to full Graduate in 1920.
