Henry Stafford Fred Robert O'Brien (1890-1928)

Harry Stafford O'Brien was born in 1890 and received his engineering education at Darlington Technical College. He was apprenticed with Robert Stephenson and Co, the well-known locomotive builders, and finished his training with Richardsons, Westgarth and Co.

After a period as engineer at sea he was appointed Assistant Works Manager to Teasdale Brothers, Darlington, and was subsequently Assistant Engineer with the Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers, and Chief Draughtsman in the Aviation Department of Vickers.

In 1920 he started in business as Consulting Engineer, and in 1923, when (his business was acquired by the Low Engineering Co, was appointed Chief Designer to the firm. This position he retained until 1926, when he entered into partnership as Consulting Engineer.

He died on 26th November, 1928.

He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1926.
