The Ffestiniog Railway and the Welsh Highland Railway are separate companies, but co-ordinate some of their activities and facilities, both running into Porthmadog Sation.

FR/WHR website

The Ffestiniog Railway is the world's oldest narrow gauge railway, and runs for 13½ miles journey from the harbour in Porthmadog to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog.

The Welsh Highland Railway runs for 25 miles from Caernarfon, past the foot of Snowdon and the village of Beddgelert, then through the Aberglaslyn Pass and on to Porthmadog.

Note: To confuse matters, there is the separate The Welsh Highland Heritage Railway.
