Built by Palmers Shipbuilding and Iron Co for their General Iron Screw Collier Co

1852. First sea-going screw collier whose first journey to London in 48 hours and unloaded 630 tons of coal in 18 hours and then returned to newcastle in 18 hours. Previous colliers took a month for this round trip.

Had a very long life under the Spanish flag before foundering as Villa Selgas in 1933.
