The Beckermet Mining Co Ltd extracted low phosphorus hematite ore from shafts at Beckermet and Haile Moor situated near the present day Sellafield Nuclear plant.

1896 The Solway Works (dating from 1870 ) were bought by Charles Cammell and Co in 1896.

1901 The company was registered on 4 June to acquire iron and coal mines at Beckermet, Cumberland. [1]

1909 The Solway Works became part of the Workington Iron and Steel Co Ltd in 1909. The plant operated until 1927[2]

Post 1918 Became a branch of the United Steel Companies

1951 Nationalised under the Iron and Steel Act; became part of the Iron and Steel Corporation of Great Britain[3]
