1915 Major W. D. Beatty of RFC took Maurice Baring (aide de camp to Hugh Trenchard) on his "first long fly" in a B.E.2c from the aircraft park at St Omer on September 5, 1915^[3].

1916 Appointed to the vacancy on the committee of the Royal Aero Club^[4]

1916 Brevet Major William Dawson Beatty (temporary Lieut-Colonel) of the Royal Engineers and the Royal Flying Corps was Assistant Director of Military Aeronautics. He was awarded the Russian Order of St Annes (third class)^[5]

1920 Awarded a Spanish decoration of military merit^[6]
