Wing Commander William Dawson Beatty (1884-1941) CBE, AFC, an early aviator

1884 Born in Darjeeling

1911 Lieutenant Royal Engineers, lived in Plumstead[1]

1911 Gained aviator's certificate at Brooklands

1914 Captain, of Royal Engineers, advanced to Squadron Commander RFC, temporary Major[2]

1915 Major W. D. Beatty of RFC took Maurice Baring (aide de camp to Hugh Trenchard) on his "first long fly" in a B.E.2c from the aircraft park at St Omer on September 5, 1915[3].

1916 Appointed to the vacancy on the committee of the Royal Aero Club[4]

1916 Brevet Major William Dawson Beatty (temporary Lieut-Colonel) of the Royal Engineers and the Royal Flying Corps was Assistant Director of Military Aeronautics. He was awarded the Russian Order of St Annes (third class)[5]

1920 Awarded a Spanish decoration of military merit[6]

1941 Died in Egypt[7]
