The Brainard Milling Machine Co. was established by Amos H. Brainard in June, 1871.

The Brainard Milling Machine Co. and the John Becker Manufacturing Co., of Fitchburg, Mass., merged to form the Becker-Brainard Milling Machine Co. Amos H. Brainard was the President and John Becker the General Manager.
