1926 Manchester wholesalers J. and N. Philips and Co acquired a large interest in W. Smith and Co (Witney), of Witney, Oxfordshire, blanket manufacturers.

1967 General Guarantee Corporation of America acquired the company

The company passed through the hands of various different owners: it was sold to Slater Walker, then to Bodycote who in turn sold it on to the Yorkshire furnishing company of Moderna Moderna Ltd in 1972 by which time it was known as Smith's Blankets.

1972 The business was employing around 250 people. Moderna initially announced that production would continue

1974 However, Crawley Mill was partially closed in 1974

1975 the company ceased operating in the Witney area.
