The American company saw an opportunity for profitable production of wood screws in Britain, by undercutting Nettlefolds and using more efficient production methods. Their factory in Providence RI had been idle for two years, due to over-capacity in the USA.

1892 Established the British Screw Co., and transferred the contents of an entire factory from Providence, RI, to Leeds

1892 Defended a case and won an appeal brought by Nettlefolds that their patent on wood screws was different and applicable.
