John Cochrane Shanks (1865-1917) of Shanks and Co

Born the son of Andrew Cochrane Shanks

1917 Died. 'We regret to record the cleat on Wednesday of Mr J. Cochrane Shanks, J.P. of Edgehill, Kelvinside, Glasgow. For over a year he had been in failing health, and a sudden relapse a few days ago brought the end quickly. He was born in Barrhead in 1865, and as a young man entered the works of Messrs Shanks and Co., then in the hands of his father, Mr Andrew Ferrier Shanks, and his uncle. Mr John Shanks. He subsequently became manager of the Glasgow branch and ultimately a director of the company. Shortly after his marriage he removed to Glasgow, and there found scope for his activities in connection with political and temperance work...'[1]
