Carlisle Gasworks

1820 Carlisle was one of the first towns in Britain to use coal gas for illumination with a plant erected by a private company.
1846 A new gas works was built on a different site.
1850 The gas company was sold to Carlisle Corporation.
1920 User of the Sentinel Steam Wagon[1]
1923 New works, designed by J. E. Blundell, the Corporation's engineer and manager, were built on a new site.
