Lewis Chapman (1890-1963)

Born 5 Jan 1890

1905 Apprenticed aged 15 to J. J. Saville and Co with whom he remained and progressed

1931 appointed Managing Director of J J Saville and of associated company William Jessop and Sons. He was also appointed a director of parent company BSA.[1]

1936 stepped down from the board of BSA to devote himself entirely to the two Sheffield steel companies.[2]

1952 elected back onto the Board of BSA.[3]

1953 elected chairman of High Speed Steel Alloys.[4]

1955 New Year honours - Lewis Chapman, Managing Director, William Jessop and Sons, Ltd. awarded CBE. [5]

1955 Effective 1 Aug, retired as MD of Savilles and Jessops, and elected chairman of both.[6]

1958 appointed deputy chairman of BSA.[7]

1959 - President of the British Iron and Steel Federation.[8]

1959 Chairman of newly formed Jessop-Saville Limited.

1959 - relinquished deputy chairmanship of BSA aat end of 1969.[9]

Died 18 Jan 1963, aged 73.[10]
