1927 Herbert Glencairn Wright Chichester-Miles set up a business as merchants and suppliers of rubber components to the automobile industry under the name Empire Rubber Company. [1]

1929 H. G. Miles Ltd was incorporated as a private company to acquire this business which continued to trade under the name Empire Rubber.

1937 Rubber manufacturers. "Brose" Radiator and Connector Hoses. "Spandit" Rubber Products. "Stepsure" Footboard Treads. [2]

1938 A factory was built at Dunstable for the business.

1940 - WWII. Manufactured service respirators, lines of communication, helmet protectors and earplugs. [3]

1947 Listed Exhibitor - British Industries Fair. Manufacturers of "Spandit" Range of Rubber Articles including "Spandit" Carrier Cash Mats, Typewriter Mats, Sundry Lines for Stationery and Allied Trades. (Olympia, 1st Floor, Stand No. G.2089) [4]

1967 Proprietors were H. G. Miles[5]
