1894 The company was registered on 23 August, to acquire a business of engineers.

1914 Engineers and contractors. specialities: grain handling machinery, silos etc., coal and ash plants, ore conveyors etc. Employees 750.

A double-acting single cylinder vertical blower, by Spencer & Co is retained on a plinth at the east end of Millwall Outer Dock in the Isle of Dogs. This unit, possibly originally belt driven, is retained as a reminder of the grain silos which once lined this dock.
