1982 The Energy Systems Trade Association (ESTA) was launched in London in February 1982 as a new trade association for suppliers of energy conservation, equipment and series.[1]

It was the brain child of Dr Glen Brookes who left the Department of Energy's Energy Technology Support Unit at Harwell to set it up.

Brookes had persuaded eight organisations to take out corporate membership at £450 each. They were:

  • APV.
  • RIFES
  • Acoustic and Envirometrics
  • Corning Process Systems
  • Heatsure
  • Bolec Energy Management Systems
  • Thermal Developments
  • Journal of Heat Recovery Systems
