ALEXANDER FREDERICK PLINT was associated throughout his professional career with the firm of Messrs. Stuart Turner, Ltd., engineers, of Henley-on-Thames, for no less than forty-five years.
He was born in 1885 and after serving a two years' apprenticeship with the Reading Electricity Supply Co and concurrently attending classes at the University College in that town, continued his practical training under Mr. Stuart Turner (the founder of the present firm), for a further three years. He then gained experience as fitter and shop foreman before becoming draughtsman and designer. In 1914 he enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps and saw service in France and Italy. As staff sergeant he was in charge of mobile workshops, was mentioned in despatches and awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
On demobilization in 1919 he returned to Messrs. Stuart Turner and was placed in charge of the drawing office.
In the following year he was made works manager and joined the board of directors. His final position, which dated from 1934, was that of technical director. Mr. Plot, whose death occurred on 16th October 1948, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1933 and was transferred to Membership in 1939.
