Boden Lace Mill, Chard

From Graces Guide

A large lace factory was established in Chard by Wheatley, on the site of a late C.18 water powered woollen mill which itself was built on the site of an ancient corn mill. Wheatley's mill was destroyed by fire in 1825, at which time 70 lace machines were installed, powered principally by water, but with assistance when required from by a steam engine of about eight horse power. It was rebuilt as a fireproof mill. John Boden, a former partner of John Heathcoat, took over the mill in 1888. The mill ceased lace production in 1939.

See here for a detailed description and history of the mill, from which the above information is largely drawn [1]

Holyrood Lace Mill is a short distance away.
