1892 The Holt Manufacturing Company was incorporated.

1910 The Holt Manufacturing Company registered "Caterpillar" as a trademark.

1912 C.L. Best produced his first track-type tractor.

1916 Caterpillar Tractors Ltd offered a range of Caterpillar tractors in Britain[1]

1925 Two leading US track-type tractor manufacturers, Holt Manufacturing Company and the C. L. Best Tractor Company, merged to form the Caterpillar Tractor Co with headquarters at Peoria, Illinois.

1950 Caterpillar formed its first overseas subsidiary – Caterpillar Tractor Co. Ltd. in England.

1996 Acquired Turner Powertrain Systems

1998 Caterpillar acquires LucasVarity Perkins and changed the name of that company to Perkins Engines Co.

2011 Acquired Bucyrus International, Inc. and MWM GmbH in Germany.
