1898 Public company formed as Chadburns (Ship) Telegraph Co

At one time accounted for over 75% of the world's marine telegraph production.

1944 Name changed to Chadburn's

1946 the company consolidated to Park Lane, Bootle.

1951 Advert showed that Chadburn's had showrooms at Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Belfast and Newcastle-on-Tyne.

1961 General engineers, manufacturing marine equipment, including nautical instruments, speed indicators, counters, counters and manual steering gear. Also manufacture automatic soft drink vending machines.

To offset changes in demand, the group also built electric hoists and cranes and made rod-gearing equipment as well as brewery equipment.

1965 Chadburns (Engineering) Ltd was incorporated which was then renamed Chadburns (Liverpool) Ltd.

1965 Acquired Millington (Plastics) and Millington and Boardman (Controls)

1966 Chadburn Holdings, a public company consisted of:[1]

Had established Chadburns (Research and Development) Ltd to provide the group with a flow of new products.

1966 Acquired Clayton Crane and Hoist Co[2]

1968 Chadburn's was the largest maker of marine telegraphs; purchased A. Robinson and Co.[3]

1969 Chadburn Holdings acquired Bloctube Controls from Boston Fishing Group Holdings and, in exchange, sold Chadburn Controls to Boston Fishing[4]. Bloctube Controls specialised in requirements for tugs, trawlers, etc.

1970 Bloctube Controls was moved to Liverpool and the name changed to Chadburn Bloctube. The brewery equipment division was amalgamated with Chadburn Plastics and the name changed to Chadburn (Darwen)[5]

By 1971 operating subsidiaries included:[6]

1972 Incorporated into Porter Chadburn[7]

1980s During the shipbuilding crisis of the 1980s the company inevitably suffered a decline and moved to Leeds, where an instrument company incorporated the marine division.

1983 the group was renamed Chadburn Engineering Ltd

1984 Part of Porter Chadburn Plc

1988 The engineering company became Porter Chadburn Engineering Ltd

1990 Chadburn Holdings and Porter Chadburn Engineering were acquired by Widney[8]

1990 Porter Chadburn Engineering became Chadburns Ltd.
