1854 The Smithes family joined the Cockburn business in Portugal

1914 One of the leading houses engaged in the Port Wine trade. Present Partners: Edward Winstanley Cobb, Henry Clement Hadrill, William Morphett Cobb, Archibald Cockburn Smithes, Reginald Frederick Cobb.

1962 Acquired by Harvey's of Bristol together with Martinez, Gassiot and Co which were brought together to produce a single efficient unit in Oporto without changing the styles of the traditional ports[1]
