General Gas and Electricity Co

1930s Company was reorganised as part of the broad move to regroup the gas, water and electricity industries. Other companies formed around this time to do similar groupings were South West Gas and Water Corporation, United Kingdom Gas Corporation, Caledonian Gas Corporation[1]

1935 The company acquired a controlling interest in the Tring Gas Light and Coke Co Ltd.[2]

1936 W. A. SCOTT, F.C.A., J.P. was Chairman of The General Gas & Electricity Co. Ltd.[3]

1938 Gasworks at Bampton, Oxon.[4]

1946 Acquired all the ordinary capital of Clifton Securities Co. Ltd., which carries on electric cable ...[5]

1947 Transferred its gas interests to a separate company, North Western Gas Corporation (formed by the operating group, Clifton Securities Co Ltd). The remainder became a purely holding company.

1949 Name changed to Reliance-Clifton Cables and Industrial Products
