Sir Geoffrey Duke Burton (1893-1954)

Born 2 Feb 1893 at Casterton, Westmorland, son of Rev Arthur Daniel Burton and his wife Gertrude nee Duke.

Educated Trinity College, Glenalmond, Perthshire and Queen's College, Cambridge.

WW1 served with Royal Engineers in Gallipoli. Egypt, and Palestine.[1]

1921 Assistant General Manager, Bristol Wagon and Carriage Works Co, Bristol, who had just been taken over by Leeds Forge Co.[2] Leeds Forge became part of Metropolitan Cammell Carriage Wagon and Finance Co in 1928.

General Manager, Metropolitan Carriage Company.[3]

1926 Married Viola Irene Donne 10 Apr 1926

1930-1934 Managing Director, Round Oak Steel Works Ltd, Dudley.[4]

1934-1944 Managing Director of the Birmingham Small Arms Company.[5]

1940 Appointed Director-general, tanks and transport at the Ministry of Supply.[6]

1942 Birthday Honours, awarded knighthood. Director-General of mechanical equipment at the Ministry of Supply, but at the time his services were enlisted, was managing director of BSA, chairman of their subsidiaries BSA Tools, the Daimler Company and William Jessop and Sons, and a director of several others.[7]

1946-1954 Director of Lodge Plugs Ltd of Rugby.[8]

Died died 2 July 1954, aged 61.[9]
