James Rodger Thomson (1846-1903)
c.1845 Born in Glasgow, son of George Thomson (1815-1866)
1863 His uncle retired from the business of J. and G. Thomson, shipbuilders, and his father took charge.
c.1866 On his father's death, he took charge of the business.
1871 James R Thomson 26, engineer and ship builder, lived in Partick, with Marion P Thomson 21, George Thomson 8months[1]
1881 Living at Mount Blow, Old Kirkpatrick (age 36 and born in Glasgow), an Engineer and Shipbuilder Master employing 3,500 men. With wife Marion P. (age 31) and children William N. (age 9), Frederick C. (age 6), Annie N. (age 5), George (age 3) and Evelyn M. (age 8 Months) plus eight servants. [2]
1891 Marion P. Thomson was still living at Mount Blow with 8 children but was described as "head" of household[3]
1897 A slump in orders led to the Thomson family selling the yard to a consortium, which renamed it as the Clydebank Engineering and Shipbuilding Co.
