Jessop-Saville (Small Tools)

A wholly owned subsidiary of BSA.

1959 the three companies making up BSA’s steel group, namely William Jessop and Sons Ltd., J. J. Saville and Co Ltd., and Bromley, Fisher and Turton Ltd., all of Sheffield, were consolidated into two new companies, Jessop-Saville Limited and Jessop-Saville (Small Tools) Limited. [1]

Small Tools concentrated on carbide tipped tools and other welded high speed steel tools. This aspect of the business was located in Portland Street, Sheffield. [2]

1960 Jessop-Saville (Small Tools) Limited relocated to a new freehold factory in Rotherham. [3] Eastwood Works, Fitzwilliam Road, Rotherham.

1965 On 1 Jan the company moved from the steels division to the tools division of BSA. Managing Director, R P Wallace was replaced as MD by S A Roberts, MD of BSA Tools Division.[4]

1967 Became Herbert B.S.A. (Cutting Tools) Ltd. following Alfred Herbert's take over of BSA's machine tool division.[5]
