1886 Description and drawings of small steam fishing boats and their machinery[1]

1886 'Messrs. John Cran and Co., Leith, have just completed a handsome steel screw steam launch, which they have built to the order of Mrs. Cusino, a South American lady, who is reputed to be the wealthiest woman in the world. The launch is intended to be employed tender to the owner’s large yacht. She is fitted with compound surface-condensing engines, which, at a trial last Saturday, gave the little vessel a speed of 9 knots per hour.'[2]

1899 John Cran and Co, Engineers, of Albert Engine and Boiler Works, Leith, was dissolved; the Business was then carried on by John Cran for his sole behoof, under the same Firm name.[3]

1917 John Cran and Somerville Limited was registered as a private company, with capital of £50,000, to acquire and purchase as a going concern the business of the firm of John Cran and Co, shipbuilders, engineers, and boilermakers, Leith.[4]
