Nephew of Alexander Spear who was in business with John Love. John was apprenticed to Love[1]

1799 Married Mary Girdler in Sheffield[2]

1802 John and Alexander Spear and Co, saw manufacturers, took on Stephen Liversidge as an apprentice

1814 The Spear company now run by John Spear

1820 The company were exporting saws to Europe and America. John Spear took Samuel Jackson as a partner.

1821 John Spear, merchant, steel refiner, saw and file manufacturer, with premises in Gilbraltar Street, was declared bankrupt; his property was auctioned off[3]

1825 John Spear, manufacturer, of Western Bank, Sheffield[4]

1832 John Spear (b.1777) married Peggy Armitage in Ecclesfield, York; Spear was of the firm Spear, Jackson and Co[5]

1835 John Spear owned property in Cupola Street[6]

1841 John Spear 65, merchant, lived in Bradfield with Peggy Spear 60[7]

1851 Living at West Hill, Bradfield, Yorkshire: John Spear (age 75 born Sheffield), Saw Manufacturer. With his wife Peggy Spear (age 70 born Sheffield)[8]

1851 John Spear died in Wortley[9][10]
