Lyonnaise des Eaux, a subsidiary of Suez Environment, is a French organization that supplies drinking water and treats wastewater.
1988 Acquired Suffolk Water Company and Essex Water Company which it combined as Essex and Suffolk Water plc
1989 Acquired Newcastle and Gateshead Water Co and Sunderland and South Shields Water Co which it combined as North East Water
1995 Wanted to acquire Northumbrian Water Group and merge Northumbrian Water with North East Water; this triggered an automatic reference to the MMC.[1]
