North East Water

From Graces Guide

1989 Lyonnaise des Eaux acquired the Newcastle and Gateshead Water Co. Subsequently also acquired the Sunderland and South Shields Water Co.

1990 Both the Sunderland and Newcastle companies were converted into plcs

1992 The 2 businesses were merged within Sunderland (renamed North East Water)

By 1995 was owned by Lyonnaise des Eaux which wanted to acquire Northumbrian Water Group and merge the two; this triggered an automatic reference to the MMC.[1]
