Mason's Yard Power Station

From Graces Guide

1891 St. James' and Pall Mall Electric Light Co generated electricity at Mason's Yard, St. James, using a 2000hp generator; distributed it at 200V using the d.c. system without accumulators[1]

1891 Reference to Willans engines aggregating 2200 IHP at Mason's Yard[2]

1902 31 December: high tension current was supplied for the first time from Grove Road Station to Carnaby Street and Mason's Yard stations, supplementing the current generated at those stations.[3]

1911 Current was supplied from Grove Road to the St. James's and Pall Mall Electric Light Co to replace that from one of their 2 small stations (presumably Mason's Yard)

1912 The Mason's yard generating plant had been removed and in its place there was a transformer (and a large storage battery) which reduced the voltage of the current brought in from Grove Road. In view of the good results a similar change would be made at the Carnaby St plant.

1912 In view of the good results with the first scheme supplying the St James company, a similar change would also be made at their Carnaby St plant. The Central Electric Supply Co would instal an extra 3000kW generator at Grove Road in order to supply this company[4]
