Montague Gluckstein (1854-1922)

Born in Spitalfields the son of Samuel Gluckstein

1922 Died. 'The death is announced of Mr Montague Gluckstein, the head of that group of organisers who built up the business of Messrs J. Lyons & Co., of which, since 1917, he had been chairman. He was also chairman of Salmon & Gluckstein, Ltd., the Strand Hotel, Ltd., , and a director of the Westminster Electric Supply Corporation, Ltd., the St James and Pall Mall Electric Light Co., Ltd., and the Guardian Eastern Assurance Co., Ltd. Mr Gluckstein was born in London in 1854, and his early days were associated with his father's business cigar manufacturer. Although he had been the actual head of Messrs J. Lyons & Co.'s business since its start, was not until 1917 that his modesty permitted him to come the front as chairman. Although his companies employed 40,000 people, he would never forget those of them he had once met. He leaves a widow, two sons, and a daughter. '[1]
