Oswestry, Ellesmere and Whitchurch Railway

1861 Parliamentary approval was sought for the line from Whitchurch through Ellesmere to Oswestry

1862 The London and North Western Railway contributed to the cost of construction[1]

1863 The line opened from Whitchurch to Ellesmere for goods and throughout for goods and passengers the following year.

1864 The 4 lines between Whitchurch and Machynlleth were merged to form Cambrian Railways - this brought together the Oswestry and Newtown Railway, the Oswestry, Ellesmere and Whitchurch Railway, the Llanidloes and Newtown Railway and the Newtown and Machynlleth Railway.
