Percy Bishop was born in 1889 and received his engineering training with Clement Talbot, subsequently occupying positions as draughtsman and designer with Sheffield-Simplex, Dawfield and Napier.
In 1912 he joined the staff of the Royal Aircraft Factory at Farnborough, where he served in various capacities for some six years.
He was then appointed to the Aeronautical Inspection Directorate of the Air Ministry, a position which he occupied until his death, which took place on 5th October, 1930, on the trial voyage of the R.101.
Major Bishop was one of the earliest Graduates of the Institution of Automobile Engineers and took an active part in the formation of the London Branch. He was elected a Graduate in 1907 and was transferred to Associate Member in 1915.
