ROBERT MORTON, born on the 11th October, 1834, at Flisk, Fifeshire, died suddenly at Bournemouth on the 15th September, 1911.
After acting as Engineer of gasworks at Woolwich and Vauxhall, he was appointed, in 1868, Engineer and Manager of the London Gas Company, at Nine Elms, and held this position until its amalgamation with the Gas Light and Coke Company, in 1883, when he retired from executive duties.
He was a director of the South Metropolitan Gas Company for 25 years, succeeding to the chair on the death of Sir George Livesey.
He was also a director of the South Suburban Gas Company, the Monte Video Gas Company, and the Hong Kong Gas Company.
Mr. Morton was elected a Member of the Institution on the 3rd December, 1872.
